What struck my about this poem was it could have been the voice of the child, or someone speaking with the longings of the child. That is why it is quietly powerful. Of course, sometimes the presence of a father can seem like an absence if he is too distant and disengaged. That, however, might be the subject of another poem...
Hello Rob. I was asked to write a poem for father's day at a recent Poetree Creations workshop and I decided to write one from the perspective of a chid who did not have a father (for whatever reason) and this poem was the result. There must be thousands of children all over the world who would love to have a father with whom they could celebrate such a day or even any day. Regards Don
