The Kohima Service takes place on the last Sunday of September each year and is a remembrance of the brave aircrews from Britain, Poland, Canada and Czechoslovakia who carried supplies into Poland from Northern Italy and dropped them to the Poles fighting in Warsaw and the Jewish Ghetto.

This was an uprising by the Poles who expected the Russians to come in and help them.

Stalin ordered his forces to remain outside of Warsaw, the most likely reason being that he had little regard for the Poles and perhaps thought that the uprising would weaken the Germans and make it easier when they attacked.

The Airbridge was maintained throughout the uprising and the cost in planes and aircrews was horrendous.

Services and Remembrance is undertaken by 'The Airbridge Association'.

I shall write a fuller account, when I have done more research.
